Secret Of Success - The 20 Second Rule

If  I told you there was a very quick technique that would change your life, would you be interested?
Well here it is the 20 second rule!

You'll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine. ....John C. Maxwell

As John C. Maxwell said the secret of your success is found in your daily routine but how can you make your daily routine better. We all know the things that are good for us and bad for us but in the midst of life we sometimes lack the willpower.

In fact our willpower is limited so we only have a certain amount before we lose our ability to be strong.

So let's take another view. Let's look at it from a moment by moment decision. Assuming you have no willpower what will you do in  a certain situation? You will do the easiest option. So all we need to do is to make the things that are good for us easier (20 seconds easier) and the things that are bad for us harder (20 seconds harder), e.g.

Watching TV.
They say TV can make you rich. Switch it off and you become rich, keep it on  and  you become poor! Seriously though TV steals your time and your life and makes you anxious (as you haven't done anything constructive) so  to use the 20 second rule, simply take the batteries out of the remote control. You will then spend 20 seconds putting the batteries in, which will then make watching TV harder then doing something else.

Doing Exercise
If you want to start exercise and decide to go running, just put your shoes and running  kit between the bed and the alarm. Then in  order to switch the alarm off, you  have to step over your running gear. This will make it easier (20 seconds easier) to run.

There are many other ways you can use the 20 second technique. Have a think and see how you can make bad things 20 seconds harder and good things 20 seconds easier. If you do this regularly, you will find your life will change for the better!

8 traits of successful people - Richard St. John

Ten years of research and 500 face-to-face interviews led Richard St.John  to a collection of eight common traits in successful leaders around the world

What really leads to success?

After 10 years of research, 500 face to face interviews, studying 1000's of success stories from other sources and interviewing careers from a to Z (including 4 Nobel prize winners) he had a lot of data.
He then spent a lot of time analyzing and sorting the interviews. This lead him to find common traits.

He found that successful people have 8 traits, which are:

1.Love what you do

2.Work really hard

3.Focus on one thing not  everything

4.Keep pushing yourself

5.Come up with good ideas

6.Keep  improving yourself and what you do

7. Serve others something of value

8.Persist

These traits were the fundamentals. There were also other skills that were helpful, based on the area you were working, such as:

Technical skills
Analytical skills
People skills
Creative skills
Management skills
Computer skills

So how many of the 8 successful traits do you have? If you don't have them all, could you try focusing on 1 trait per month?
