What do you need to start?

It's very simple , you just need
  • 1 post it /sticky note pad

What do I have to do?

All you need to do is to write down daily, your heart's desire (e.g Relationships jobs, business, health, happiness, etc) on the post it note

  • Write by hand
  • Write as if the thing you wish exists already in the present
  • Not I wish or I could have but I have
  • Not negative , state in positive
  • For example:
    • I have a great relationship with my wife
    • I have more than enough to give to others
    • I am blessed
    • My finances are doing well
    • I have perfect health
    •  I have a great relationship with my children
  • On the bottom right corner of the post it note, write a number.
    •  Start with number 1 then next day number 2 then next day number 3 until you reach 90
    • However  if  skip one day go back to 1. so the 90 day challenge might take you 1/2 a year.

The Daily 2 Minute Secret to Happiness - Shawn Achor

Wouldn't it be great if you could be happy by doing something for just 2 minutes a day? Well that's exactly what the data and research shows. Watch this great talk by psychologist Sean Achor to see how you can do exactly that.

Taking Action- Random Acts of Kindness (Lyubomirsky, 2005)

What we had the CEO's do is before you open up your inbox, for the first thing in the day, before reading a single email and that's actually the only hard part of this study, you had to write a 2-minute email just praising or thanking someone in your social support network, not a coworker but  it's a family member or an old teacher or coach or someone you met at the conference, just someone you want to thank or praise for something. Just  2 minutes and you're done. What we found is, if you do this for three days you're hooked. All day long you think about that one email you sent this morning and being such a great person for sending such emails.

The reason why you do this experiment is over period of 21 days in a row your brain learns you have a robust social support network. You have 21 people in your social support network who have meaning to you and you just activated it in a meaningful way. As a result we found a correlation between CEO's social support and the happiness is 0.7 which doesn't sound that sexy but that's significantly higher than the correlation between smoking and cancer so if you had social support you definitely have a great chance of having happiness and without it that's the very first thing that goes with the happiness.

In my book I have a whole chapter on social investment which is studying individuals and companies that in the midst of challenge, instead of divesting from The Social Network they invest, they actually ramp it up and in doing so the success rate continues to rise where's the others continue to flag. I was working with UBS and one of the managers was telling me that there's a vehicle that would go round on Friday afternoons (the beer cart) after the markets close and it was a great way of bonding with everyone and if you're tired after working on the week and he said when the economy starts to fall, they cut back and the first thing of course you cut is the things that seem frivolous like the beer cart but of course if you cut the  social support its a mistake but that is what they did and they cut the beer cart but this manager reached into his own pocket to buy beer for his team. He said "I'm a professional investor I've done this for 20 years and it's the best investment I've made because my team in the midst of all the struggles while we losing people to other companies I didn't lose a single person on my team and they continue to do many of the things they want to because they saw me as a person who cared about them". This  just confirms the research that shows employees are more engaged if they believe that their manager cares for them.

I don't think we need to buy some beer for people to win their social support but I think we can write a two minute email to somebody in our social support network to ramp up a belief in our social network and improve happiness

2 minute a day, 21 day program for success - The happy secret to better work | Shawn Achor

We believe we should work hard in order to be happy, but could we be thinking about things backwards? In this fast-moving and very funny talk, psychologist Shawn Achor argues that, actually, happiness inspires us to be more productive.

He's worked with schools and companies in over 45 countries and found that happiness is not due to the external world but how our brain processes the world.

If you can raise somebody's level of positivity in the present, then their brain experiences what we now call a happiness advantage, which is your brain at positive performs significantly better than at negative, neutral or stressed. Your intelligence rises, your creativity rises, your energy levels rise. In fact, he's found that every single business outcome improves. Your brain at positive is 31% more productive than your brain at negative, neutral or stressed. You're 37% better at sales. Doctors are 19 percent faster, more accurate at coming up with the correct diagnosis when positive instead of negative, neutral or stressed.

If we can find a way of becoming positive in the present, then our brains work even more successfully as we're able to work harder, faster and more intelligently. We need to be able to reverse this formulaso we can start to see what our brains are actually capable of.Because dopamine, which floods into your system when you're positive, has two functions. Not only does it make you happier, it turns on all of the learning centers in your brainallowing you to adapt to the world in a different way.

When your brain is positive it produces dopamine which makes you happier. It also opens learning centres in the brain, making you better able to adapt to the world.

So how can you get more positive and productive? How can you rewire your brain, allowing your brain to actually work more optimistically and more successfully?

Spend 2 mins a day for the next 21 days doing the following daily:

1. Write three new things you are grateful for (Emmons & McCullough 2003)

2. Journaling one positive thing that happened in the last 24 hours (Slatcher & Pennebaker 2006)

3. Exercise (Babyak et al 2000)

4. Mediation (Dweck 2007)

5. Random acts of kindness (Lyubomirsky, 2005)

1. Write down three new things you are greatful for.

Write down three new things that they're grateful for for 21 days in a row, three new things each day. And at the end of that, their brain starts to retain a pattern of scanning the world not for the negative, but for the positive first

2.Journaling one positive experience you've had in the last 24 hours

Journaling about one positive experience you've had over the past 24 hours allows your brain to relive it

3.Exercise

Exercise teaches your brain that your behavior matters

4.Meditation

We find that meditation allows your brain to get over the cultural ADHD that we've been creating by trying to do multiple tasks at once and allows our brains to focus on the task at hand

5.Random acts of kindness

random acts of kindness are conscious acts of kindness. We get people, when they open up their inbox, to write one positive email praising or thanking somebody in their support network.

So by doing these 5 things, you can train your brain, just like people train their bodies and create positivity, productiveness and success.

The Quality Of Your Life Is Determined By The Quality Of The Questions You Ask

Do you find yourself repeating the same behaviour or feeling trapped? A lot of the time this is due to the questions we ask ourselves which limit the choices open to us. The advice is simple, change the questions you ask yourself and your attitude, the choices open to you, how you feel about yourself and the direction of your life will all change for the better. Here Pinky Jangra talks about some of these points:

The Quality Of Your Life Is Determined By The Quality Of The Questions You Ask

This title is a well known statement in the personal development industry. It may not seem particularly profound at first glance, but it’s BIG when you wrap your head around it. We are always asking questions, sometimes of others and very often of ourselves. These questions have a huge impact on our lives because:

Questions lead to answers. Answers generate emotions and drive behaviour. Behaviour determines results.

Frequently, this whole process from question to results involves just us. Here’s an example of a common, poor quality question that we ask ourselves, answer ourselves and the rest follows suit:

Poor Question to self: Why is my job so rubbish?

Answer to self: It’s boring.

Emotion and behaviour: I feel stuck, uninspired and drained. I’ll make myself feel better by doing something fun this weekend.

Result: I still have to go back to the same job on Monday.

Poor quality questions

A poor quality question delivers poor quality answers. Such answers create disempowering emotions. From there, we are likely to act out less helpful behaviours and achieve poor results.
So let’s flip this example with some quality questions – the more we ask the better:

Quality question 1: Would I prefer to find a way of enjoying this job, or get a new job?

Answer: I’d like a new job

Quality question 2: What am I both good at and enjoy doing, which I’d love to get paid for?

Answer: I’m good at and would like to work in […]

Quality question 3: What action can I take towards getting work in that industry?

Answer: I can start by freelancing on the side, I could partner with someone more experienced, I could join specialist recruitment sites, look for jobs within my own company, pull on my network for advice and contacts and take some courses.

Emotions and behaviour: I can see how this is possible, I have six ways to start this journey to a better career. I feel a sense of control, inspiration, clarity and excitement. I’ll start by looking for specialist recruiters and signing up for a course.

Results: I am now two steps closer to getting a job I really want.

A quality question empowers you to generate quality results

This process is applicable for any areas of life. How often do you hear people who want to be in a relationship saying ‘why are there no decent girls/ guys out there?’, resigning themselves to the answer ‘they are all taken’ and then wondering why they are still single?!

What if they were to ask: what do I want in a partner? Where are those sorts of people to be found? How can I meet them? What can I do to make myself a good match for someone like that?

Don’t forget to take action

Disempowering emotions don’t promote action, they promote avoidance. Quality questions generate empowering emotions which drive action. But you must TAKE the action.

More examples of quality questions

· How can I learn from this?

· How have other people succeeded?

· How can I break this down into manageable chunks?

· Who can I learn from or ask for advice?

· Where is the opportunity in this tough situation?

· How does this serve me?

· How is staying in my current situation a disservice to me?

· What will be the benefits of change?

The list sure goes on!

You can use the template of Question, Answer, Emotion, Behaviour and Result, to ask yourself more quality questions and explore the results that you would achieve. You could also use it to understand more about how poor quality questions are delivering you poor results.

So, what sort of quality questions would you like to ask in your life?

Why are you trying so hard to fit in, when you were born to stand out?

This is a great lesson for us all to not follow the crowd and do what you believe in and do what you think is right.

The Asch conformity experiments were a series of studies published in the 1950s that demonstrated the power of conformity in groups. These are also known as the "Asch Paradigm".

A lot of times you think everyone else is doing something different so you think they must be right -who am I to disagree? Sometimes we go with a group because they convince us their information is correct (Informational conformity) , sometimes we conform because we are apprehensive that the group will disapprove if we disagree (normative conformity). But we should always stand by our judgement and belief, as Mark Twain said:

Whenever I find myself on the side of the majority, it is time to stop and think.....Mark Twain

However most of the advances in human development have come from individuals with vision. This is a statement that George Bernard Shaw summarized eloquently:

Reasonable men try and change themselves to the world, unreasonable men try and change the world to themselves. That is why all progress depends on unreasonable men.......George Bernard Shaw

So believe in yourself and stay true to your values!

IF - HOW TO HAVE EVERYTHING

Would you like to have the Earth and everything that's in  it? Here is the ultimate guide for success!

This is an amazing poem. "If—" is a poem by British Nobel laureate Rudyard Kipling,  The poem, first published in Rewards and  Fairies (1910), is written in the form of paternal advice to the poet's son, John

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too.
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
 If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster,
 And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make a heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
 And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
 If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And—which is more—you'll be a Man, my son!
